Bringing a natural approach toward a sustainable future
Material Sciences
A new paradigm of material sciences is coming to light. Many of our choices that we have in home
construction is, frankly, unsustainable. Here are a few things to think about. First, lets talk about energy.
The world population is growing rapidly, we are well past the natural carrying capacity of earth's to sustain life.
This has been possible, almost exlusively, because of additional sources of cheap energy through fossil fuels. Here's
the catch, this cannot go on indefinately. In the large scale of things, we have blown through enormous stores
of energy in an relatively small time. As energy becomes more precious, the amount of embodied energy (the amount
of energy required to produce a product, and bring it to the site) will be of utmost concern. Local systems of
resource management and distribution, as well as conscience decision making on everyone's part is the next generation
of building. Being informed is the first step we can all take together. Take time to educate yourself and those around
you on using safe and sustainable materials.
Green Building Technology
The concern for building green is on the rise. And why
wouldn't it be? We can reduce our impact on the environment, while improving
our personal health through less chemical exposure. Sounds like great a start.
New building practices, with sustainability in mind must take the forefront
if we wish to maintain a healthy, long lasting society. We may be in the
middle of economic and environmental turmoil, but there are many points
of intervention that we can all take. See how you can go green today. Whether
your commitment is big or small,
whatever works for your situation, works for us all
